A denture is a product that replaces missing teeth in persons that have either lost teeth or had them removed for other reasons.
They are generally made up of acrylic in order to resemble natural teeth and gums. A complete denture will replace all of the person’s teeth and provide them with the ability to carry on with their natural lives.
There are two types of complete dentures: immediate and conventional.
Immediate dentures are ready when the teeth being replaced are removed. These act as a bandage to not only promote healing but also to help stop bleeding and aid in the protection of the gums and jaw.
Conventional dentures are usually ready 8 – 12 weeks after the teeth are removed. This allows the gums and jaw time to heal and be ready for the denture.
